In another step towards building a fairer and more inclusive society, Tafalla Iron Foundry signed a new collaboration agreement yesterday with the Down Syndrome Association of Navarra, further strengthening its commitment to the ITACA SEPAP Employment program, an initiative aimed at facilitating the labor inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities.

The signing of the agreement took place at the headquarters of the Down Syndrome Association of Navarra and was attended by representatives from both organizations. From Tafalla Iron Foundry, Edurne Gil, Raquel Villar, and Ignacio Ugalde were present. Representing the association were Edurne Pascal, its manager and director of Programs, and Araceli Etxaide, responsible for the ITACA SEPAP program.

A collaboration with 7 years of history

This collaboration is not new. It began in 2018 and has been, since then, a deeply enriching experience. The agreement signed this week consolidates the work carried out and sets a clear roadmap to continue promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace.

Our labor inclusion policy is a testament to our real commitment to society, which goes beyond speeches and translates into concrete actions. The inclusion of people with Down syndrome and/or intellectual disabilities not only asserts their right to work but also adds value to teams and strengthens the organizational culture.

We know that stepping out of the comfort zone and taking that first step requires determination, but we also know—through experience—that it is a journey full of rewards. The key is to see the opportunity, not the problem. That’s why we are excited to share our experience and encourage more companies to join this initiative.

What is ITACA SEPAP Employment?

ITACA SEPAP Employment is a program by the Down Syndrome Association of Navarra that promotes the labor inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities, especially those with Down syndrome, in regular work environments.

It uses the Supported Employment (SE) methodology, providing on-the-job training, personalized support, and continuous follow-up to ensure success and stability in employment. Additionally, it offers training in social and labor skills for active workers, aiming to maintain and improve their personal, social, and work-related skills.

This comprehensive approach seeks to empower people with intellectual disabilities, promoting their autonomy and active participation in society.
