The industrial cooperative Tafalla Iron Foundry (TIF) has successfully completed the project “Data control and processing in the core-making line – MACHDATA,” an initiative that strengthens the digitalization of one of the most critical processes in its production. The project was developed with the technological collaboration of Dateando, S.L. and was funded by the Government of Navarre, under the framework of the 2025 call for grants supporting R&D&I projects in industrial companies.
Specifically, MACHDATA has enabled progress in the implementation of an Industry 4.0 solution through the real-time monitoring and analysis of key variables in the core-making process. The newly deployed digital platform centralizes plant data and supports faster, more objective decision-making, accessible from different departments within the company.
Among the main results achieved through this tool are a 10% reduction in internal defects, a 10% decrease in sand consumption associated with defective or broken cores, a 15% reduction in rework in the finishing area, and a 3% improvement in the overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) of the core-making equipment—contributing to a more efficient and sustainable production process.
To achieve these results, the program integrates data visualization systems, structured defect logging, alarm management, and traceability and quality reporting. The system therefore helps to understand the production status in real time, identify behavioral patterns, and detect process deviations early, driving continuous improvement and enhancing the final quality of the parts.

In view of these achievements, José Antonio Molina, Industrial Director of Tafalla Iron Foundry, stated that this project represents “a decisive step” in the company’s digitalization strategy. “Having reliable real-time data allows us to anticipate problems, optimize the use of resources, and continue moving toward a more efficient, competitive, and sustainable foundry,” he added.
On the other hand, the MACHDATA project lays the groundwork for the future application of advanced statistical analysis and machine learning models, aimed at defect prediction and process parameter optimization, reinforcing the company’s commitment to technological innovation applied to its operations. “With this initiative, Tafalla Iron Foundry strengthens its position as a leading industrial cooperative in Navarre, committed to continuous improvement, sustainability, and the development of the industrial sector,” concluded José Antonio Molina, Industrial Director of TIF.
